      Premiere of Many Hands
Leonard Nimoy Thalia, 2537 Broadway, New York 10025
      • Marc Peloquin, piano

David Del Tredici has a champion in pianist Marc Peloquin who will premiere a major new work for solo piano-Many Hands-on September 7, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia. Many Hands is a virtuoso exploration of the outer reaches of piano technique. The work includes every possibility of hand simultaneities--that is to say music for left hand alone, right hand alone (very rare!), as well as the conventional two hands together (however the composer does not ask the pianist to play with his nose--a "trick" attributed to the young J.S. Bach) . The program also includes Peloquin-Del Tredici favorites: the pianistic terror S/M Ballade (commissioned by Peloquin) and the recent autobiographical work in four movements entitled, Late in the Game.

Celebrating more than a decade of collaboration, Del Tredici credits Peloquin with seducing him to compose again for his first love--the piano. Del Tredici has said about Marc "his personal radiance, superior technique and musical imagination drew me in. I am forever in his debt”.

A New York Times critic has said "Marc Peloquin’s energetic approach yielded a performance that was refreshing and alive. Individual lines rang out with remarkable definition and clarity.” "An innovative ivory tickler" declared Time Out, Marc Peloquin has appeared in a wide range of venues such as The Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, Town Hall, Bargemusic, the Kennedy Center, The Chicago Cultural Center, The Gardner Museum and the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. He has recorded for the Albany, C.R.I. and Naxos labels and is the founder and curator of the KeyedUp Music Project concert series in New York City which is celebrating its eighth season.

Del Tredici to perform in Satie's Vexations at the Guggenheim Museum
      Peter Lewis Auditorium, Guggenheim Museum

September 26 at 7 pm through September 27 at 1 pm

        Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

On the occasion of Mystical Symbolism: The Salon de la Rose+Croix in Paris, 1892–1897, the Guggenheim presents a durational concert featuring Erik Satie’s Vexations (1893). Satie composed this score on the heels of ending his involvement with the Salon de la Rose+Croix. It is unknown whether Satie intended for the work to be played or if it was simply a sort of jest directed at the esoteric excesses of Joséphin Péladan, the founder of the Salon. The piece attracted the attention of composer John Cage, who first staged it in a 1963 New York performance that featured David Del Tredici, John Cale, James Tenney, David Tudor, and Christian Wolff, among others. Observing one of Satie’s instructions literally, the score was repeated 840 times, lasting for almost 19 hours in an unprecedented serial undertaking that echoed the Minimalist and Conceptual concerns of the 1960s. More than 50 years later, the Guggenheim will present this iconic durational performance to a New York audience.

The Guggenheim presentation will feature a roster of established and emerging pianists from both classical and avant-garde spheres. Performers include: Timo Andres, Nicole Brancato, Geoffrey Burleson, Vicky Chow, Philip Corner, Sylvie Courvoisier, Gaspard Dehaene, David Del Tredici, Erika Dohi, Sarah Dutcher, Matthew Goodheart, Michelle Kalisz, Zalman Kelber, Taka Kigawa, Karl Larson, Blair McMillen, Anne Queffélec, Joshua Rifkin, Margaret Leng Tan, Christian Wolff.

        Sound Hearth: Happy 80th!
Celebrate the birthdays of newly minted octogenarians and composers that changed the course of musical history – Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and David Del Tredici. These composers were responsible for reviving the tonal tradition in composition after the mid-twentieth century’s fascination with atonality and serialism. In addition to hearing music by each of the composers, you’ll learn a work and perform it as a group!

        Del Tredici works being performed:
